What We Offer
177 Winnipeg Squadron offers a comprehensive training program that combines weekly training nights with weekend activities and summer courses . Our cadets participate in aviation activities, survival training, marksmanship, drill, music, physical fitness, and leadership development .
All training is provided at no cost to cadets and their families. Uniforms, equipment, and training materials are provided .
Our Core Programs
Aviation & Gliding
Experience the thrill of flight through our aviation and gliding programs. Cadets learn principles of flight, aircraft identification, navigation, and meteorology .
Activities Include:
- • Glider familiarization flights
- • Powered flight opportunities
- • Pilot scholarship courses (age 16+)
- • Aviation ground school
- • Aerospace studies
Survival Training
Learn essential outdoor survival skills during weekend field training exercises (FTXs). This mandatory training takes place throughout the year at local outdoor sites .
Skills Taught:
- • Fire building and maintenance
- • Shelter construction
- • Map and compass navigation
- • Search and rescue signaling
- • Wilderness first aid
Marksmanship
Develop discipline, focus, and precision through our marksmanship program using .177 caliber air rifles in a safe, supervised environment .

- • Advanced marksmanship courses
- • Biathlon (skiing & shooting)
Drill & Ceremonial
Build discipline, teamwork, and pride through precision drill movements and ceremonial duties. Participate in parades and community events .

Band & Music

Training Schedule
Weekly Training Nights
Cadets attend regular training nights where they participate in interactive lessons to boost their skills in leadership, communication, aviation, citizenship, and other technical skills .

Summer Training Opportunities
Cadets can apply for multi-week summer courses at Cadet Training Centres across Canada .
Basic Aviation
Duration: 3 weeks
Introduction to aviation principles, aircraft systems, and flight theory .
Advanced Aviation
Duration: 3 weeks
Specialist training in radio communication, meteorology, and navigation .
Glider Pilot
Duration: 6 weeks
Earn your Transport Canada glider pilot license .
Power Pilot
Duration: 6 weeks
Earn your Transport Canada private pilot license (age 16+).
Survival Instructor
Duration: 3 weeks
Advanced wilderness survival skills and instructional techniques .
Drill & Ceremonial
Duration: 3 weeks
Advanced drill, flag drill, and leadership development .
